The Old Chancel in Sidmouth was built by Peter Orlando Hutchinson, local antiquary and historian, in 1864. He was on the Committee for the restoration of the parish church, however, appalled at the severity of the "restoration" that left only the tower, he saved as much as possible of the original building, buying and re-erecting it at 4 Coburg Terrace. The picture is taken from the nearby churchyard of the parish church from which the salvaged materials came.
