Going, going, gone

Going, going, gone
by Jacqueline Freeman from Sidmouth GB on 11 Jan 2022

With reference to the plight of the two Monterey Pines off Cliff Road, Sidmouth, that have featured recently in the Sidmouth Herald: it may appear that the council had their own agenda. One tree was found to exhibit some disease and it was deemed necessary to fell it, (although it is usual to manage that specific condition initially, without resorting to the destruction of the whole tree). The second tree was pronounced healthy. Reasons to also fell this were eventually provided by the tree officer for East Devon. Scientific evidence totally refuting these reasons was sent to the tree officer. No response was forthcoming and the felling took place. This seems to be a shocking state of affairs and it is a little scary to wonder what else the council has in store for the people of Sidmouth. First the fiasco of the Knowle and now this. Sad times for Sidmouth residents. One can't imagine the trees were felled for any building projects such as at the Knowle, but we shall see.
